5-A-Day Fruit/Veggie Chart

Eating 5 or more servings of colorful fruits and vegetables a day is part of an important plan for healthy living. That’s because fruits and vegetables provide the wide range of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and phytochemicals your body needs to maintain good health and energy levels, protect against the effects of aging, and reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease.

Therfore, I have been trying to figure out how to get our kids to eat more fruits and veggies. That was something I was never very good at doing when I was their age, and even still struggle with at times. They are 3 and 4 years old, so some of the resources I found to help encourage kids were a little too old for them. Therefore, I created a “5-A-Day” chart with squares for them to place stickers each time they ate a serving of fruit or veggies. I created the chart in black and white, so that we could also use it as a tool to talk more about each item pictured while we colored it (also reinforcing their colors).

The kids have loved it! Some days, Natalie will even ask for more fruits or veggies to eat so she can put more stickers up. So, it is working. Sometimes I have even implemented a “treat” for completing their 5 in a day.

Here it is. Feel free to print it off and use for yourself. And let me know how it goes. It would be so encouraging to me to know if it helps other kids.

  1. That’s a great idea, Jill. I’m going to try that with my kids. I didn’t realize you had this blog till just now. I haven’t read the other posts yet but I will.
